Punxsutawney Phil says, without a shadow of doubt, Steelers will win

Punxsutawney Phil poked his head out of his hole bright and early Thursday morning and caught a glimpse of his shadow, predicting six more weeks of winter. Oh, and what’s that the groundhog had in his, uh, paw? Why, Phil was waving a Terrible Towel, of course. I guess that means he is predicting a victory for the Pittsburgh Steelers in Sunday’s Super Bowl XL in Detroit. According to the Associated Press story, the gathering in Punxsutawney, which lies about 65 miles north of Pittsburgh, turned into an impromptu Steelers rally with onlookers wearing the team’s jerseys and chanting “Let’s go Steelers.” In case you’re wondering, Phil has a seven-year shadow streak going. The last time he did not see his shadow was in 1999. According to records from the Groundhog Club, he has seen has shadow 96 of the 110 years records have been kept. That’s 87 percent if you’re scoring at home. (Or, even if you’re alone, as our favorite broadcaster Keith Olbermann used to say on SportsCenter.) In a similar story, Sam the Seahawk stuck his head out of his Seattle nest Thursday morning, had a Cinnamon Dolce Latte from Starbucks and predicted six more weeks of rain for the city – every day. Way to go out on a limb, eh, Mr. Seahawk?
