The sting is gone
As the season progresses, it's looking more and more like my Emory & Henry Wasps are going to finish the 2005 campaign without a single victory. The Waspers are on the road Saturday playing Randolph-Macon College, which, like E&H, is 0-5 for the year. Emory & Henry, a school that has built a proud football tradition since the mid 80s, goes into the game having scored just 47 points this season. The Wasps scored more than 47 twice during last year's 4-6 season. Meanwhile, the Wasps defense has been neither stinging nor stingy, allowing opponents to score 203. What hurts is the team's offense, which posted staggering totals just a year ago, is stumbling. The running game is averaging just two yards a carry and has just one touchdown. The Yellow Jackets, meanwhile, have similar numbers in terms of offensive production and defensive ineptitude. Oh, in case you're wondering about the last time E&H went through a season without a win, it has never happened since the school began football way back in 1915.
Anyway, did you see the story today about the guys who were conspiring to kill a Jacksonville Jaguars cheerleader so they could steal her Mercedes and sell it? That's an odd story in itself, but it led me to wonder how many Jaguars players and, I guess we'll include cheerleaders too, actually drive Jaguars. Wouldn't that be interesting to know? Anyway, if you want to read about the story of the cheerleader and how police shot dead one of the conspirators on the beach, read the article in today's Florida Times-Union.
