Ricky's '06 season up in smoke
So which is it? Did Ricky Williams fail a drug test or did he simply miss a scheduled test? Reports coming out Sunday night said Williams had violated the NFL's substance abuse policy. Monday morning, the story was that the Miami Dolphins running back simply failed to show up for his latest scheduled test most likely because he was out of the country. Hmm! Now, just barely into the afternoon (in the East), reports are saying Williams has failed the drug test. Either way, the violation, which is the fourth for the former University of Texas star and 1998 Heisman Trophy winner, is going to mean another year out of the league, because missing a test is the same, under league rules, as failing a test. This is a huge, uh, blow, for the Dolphins whom may have ready to ship Williams to another team, probably Denver for some top draft picks. (Did you notice the initial report came from Denver TV station KDVR?) This also could be a hit against the Broncos if they had indeed planned to acquire Williams. Maybe they would not have been able to get both into Bronco uniforms, but Denver was in the running to make a big splash this offseason by possibly getting, via trades, Williams and receiver Terrell Owens. Williams' mom is in her son's corner following news of the latest violation, saying Ricky possibly could be taking a substance to help him with his yoga. "I just don't believe he's smoking weed," Sandy Williams told the Palm Beach Post.
